Debra Peterson - Debra Peterson

Debra Peterson is a freelance writer who specializes in research and writing within the diverse field of Disney Studies. Her work – in such areas as Disney theme parks and animation, fairy-tale films, and film genres – has been published online and in popular and academic presses.

Because of her obsessive interest in all things Disney and its influence in American culture, Debra also has a column as the National Disney Travel Examiner and is a contributing writer for Chip and Company, a Disney news website.

Other areas reflect her interest in contemporary American popular and visual culture: live-action films, animation, television, comics and graphic novels and other American amusement and theme parks. She also writes fiction and drama.

In addition to writing, Debra is a teacher. She has over 16 years of experience writing, publishing, and teaching college-level English and film. Her university experience includes curriculum development and advising undergraduate students through their programs and with post-graduate career plans.

When not writing or teaching, Debra indulges her interests in travel, animation and theme parks. Given her fascination with all things Disney (and Pixar!), Debra frequently travels to Walt Disney World and Disneyland. She enjoys helping others plan their trips to the Mouse, and is an active member of several online Disney communities.

In her spare time, Debra also enjoys traveling to non-theme park destinations, vegetarian dining, and running long-distance races. And she watches movies, lots and lots of movies. She’s never met a genre or style she didn’t like, although she’s particularly fond of animation (naturally), film noir, science fiction, horror, and black comedy.

Debra considers herself very lucky that her vocations and avocations overlap.
