In 2011, Disney Cruise Line offers a "Kids Sail Free" promotion for their seven-night Alaskan cruises aboard the Disney Wonder.

For the first time in its history of family cruises, Disney Cruise Line (DCL) has added Alaska cruises. In 2011, the Disney Wonder will offer a summer season with seven-night Alaskan cruises that leave from Vancouver, British Columbia and feature stops at Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway.

To promote these new Disney cruise ship itineraries, DCL is running a family-travel promotion for its summer Alaskan cruises. The “Kids Sail Free” promotion is valid on select Disney cruises in May and June 2011.

“Kids Sail Free” 2011 Promotion for Alaskan Disney Cruises

Disney’s “Kids Sail Free” special promotion for the Disney Wonder’s Alaskan cruises is available on select dates and for certain staterooms. In order to take advantage of the Disney Cruise special, adult guests must book a Verandah or Oceanview stateroom for a seven-night cruise that departs between May 3 and June 7, 2011.

The kids of “Kids Sail Free” refers to children who are ages 17 years and younger. Children must travel with two full-fare guests and must stay with the adults in the same stateroom. Children under the age of three years sail free on DCL cruises.

As with other Disney cruise specials, there are several conditions and restrictions:

  • The offer is open only to residents of the U.S. and Canada, and the number of available staterooms is limited.
  • Prices are based on double occupancy and listed in U.S. dollars. Disney Cruise specials apply to the cost of the fare. Government taxes and fees, as well as any Port Adventures costs, are not included as part of this promotion.
  • Excluded are suite, concierge and inside staterooms.
  • As with other DCL promotions, “Kids Sail Free” to Alaska cannot be combined with other Disney discounts or offers. Worth noting, however, is that guests or their travel agents who book a Disney cruise online can receive a $25 onboard credit. This credit is good for new bookings.

Disney’s Seven-Night Alaskan Cruises

The Disney Wonder’s seven-night Alaskan cruises depart from Vancouver, British Columbia. The itinerary includes stops at the Alaskan ports of Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, a ship tour of Tracy Arm, and two days at sea. Disney cruises to Alaska offer families the opportunity to see the area’s natural beauty and to experience its native culture and to see some of its wildlife: humpback whales, brown bears or bald eagles.

What follows is a brief look at some of the possibilities for the Disney Cruise ship's itinerary.

At Juneau, guests will be able to take in the area’s Mendenhall Glacier, take the Mount Roberts Tramway to an observation deck, or visit the city’s cultural and historic sites such as the Alaska State Museum and Saint Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church.

At the port of Ketchikan, located on Revillagigedo Island at the foot of Deer Mountain, guests can visit one of three totem pole parks. Nature lovers can also visit Misty Fjords National Monument or Deer Mountain Tribal Hatchery and Eagle Center.

In Skagway, known as “Gateway to the Klondike,” DCL cruisers can visit Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park. Railfans might enjoy a trip on the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad.

When visiting Tracy Arm, approximately 45 miles south of Juneau in the Tongass National Forest, cruisers are offered a ship tour of the fjord and its sights – which include Sawyer Glaciers and Alaskan wildlife.

Vancouver, the departure city of DCL’s Alaskan cruises, offers a number of opportunities for sightseeing. The third largest city in Canada, Vancouver is home to Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain Skyride, an aerial tramway.

Booking an Alaskan Cruise with Disney Cruise Line

Disney Wonder’s first Alaskan trip will depart on May 3, and its last trip of the season is scheduled for August 30, 2011. Rates for the seven-night Alaskan itinerary start at $939 per person for a standard inside stateroom, based on double occupancy. Note: these rooms are not eligible for the “Kids Sail Free” promotion.
