Walt Disney World offers eligible military personnel and their spouses special discounts on Disney's Orlando theme-park tickets and resorts.

Walt Disney World (WDW) jump starts its “What Will You Celebrate?” campaign for members of the military with Disney’s Armed Forces Salute promotion, available between Jan. 3 to Aug. 31, 2010 for use by Sept. 30, 2010. This promotion offers discounted WDW tickets for eligible military members, their spouses, and a restricted number of family and friends. Discounts on WDW resorts are also available.

Who is Eligible for Disney’s Armed Forces Salute?

The promotion is open to active and retired U.S. military personnel or their spouses. Eligible military personnel also include active and retired members of the U.S. Coast Guard, and active members of the National Guard or Reservists.

Disney’s 4-Day Military Promotional Base Ticket

Eligible individuals can purchase Walt Disney World 4-day Military Promotional Base tickets for $99 (excluding tax) each for themselves and up to five other family members or friends. Tickets may be purchased at participating base ticket offices – including the Shades of Green Resort – and at the theme-park ticket windows. Tickets are not valid until activated.

Base tickets admit guests to one major theme park per day – Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom – but may be upgraded to include park hopping and water parks. The Park Hopper and Water Park Fun & More options cost an additional $26 (excluding tax), per option, for each ticket. Tickets must be purchased by Aug. 31, 2010.

Restrictions on Ticket Purchase and Use

  • Military ID will be required to purchase and activate tickets. Activated members of the National Guard or Reservists must also present their orders.
  • No more than six promotional tickets may be purchased, and at the same time, by any eligible member or spouse.
  • Tickets are non-transferable and expire on Sept. 30, 2010; tickets need to be activated no later than Sept. 26, 2010 at main entrance theme-park windows.
  • Blockout Dates apply: March 27, 2010 – April 9, 2010 for all Walt Disney World theme parks and gated attractions, and July 3 – July 4, 2010 for the Magic Kingdom.
  • This offer may not be combined with any other admissions offer.
  • Tickets also may be upgraded to seasonal or annual passes, based on the actual price paid for the base ticket.

Military Discounts for Cirque Du Soleil’s La Nouba

Also through Sept. 30, 2010, Cirque du Soleil offers a 30% discount to its La Nouba show on the day of performance, subject to availability. Eligible military members and their spouses may purchase tickets for themselves and up to four people at the La Nouba Box Office located at Downtown Disney Westside. Military ID is required.

Military Discounts on Select Walt Disney World Resorts

Eligible military personnel may save up to 40% on select rooms at Disney resorts, when booked through Aug. 31, 2010 for hotel stays between Jan. 3, 2010 – Sept. 30, 2010, excluding blockout dates. Savings are based on non-discounted prices for the same room and must be booked in advance. A valid military ID is required for check-in.

A limited number of Walt Disney World resort rooms are available for this promotion. Eligible resorts are those that are Disney-owned and -operated, thus excluding Shades of Green, the Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin, and Downtown Disney resorts. These resorts, notably the Shades of Green (an Armed Forces Recreation Center), may have their own discounts for military personnel.

Restrictions & Exclusions on Resort Offers

  • No group rates or other discounts may be used in conjunction with this offer.
  • Additional charges apply if more than two adults stay in a room.
  • Friday or Saturday arrivals may require a minimum length of stay.
  • Blockout dates apply: March 28 – April 10, 2010 and July 1 – July 5, 2010.

Veterans who did not retire from the military should also be included in the Armed Forces Salute offer deals. There are many who have fought for this country in Iraq and Afghanistan and they deserve discounted deals at Disney World as well. Let's support all our troops not just a selected few.

Why are only "selected" military people given this special?
My father gave 20 years of his life to the Army and to the US.
Why can't he be eligible?

Yeah I agree that veterans, especially combat veterans should be included. I'm starting to see, now that I got out after 10 years of active duty, that I 'missed the mark' with military discounts because I wasn't a retiree. It's a shame...

I agree that it shouldn't be just for active and Veterans. All military soldiers that served their country should be treated equal. Whether it was one year our thirty years. A soldiers life is the same in all military branches. Don't just select how many years or that they are still serving in the service to support. Support ALL that gave to this Country.

I served and am a rated disabled veteran of more than 30%. Why can't I enjoy the benefits as well? My husband served his 6 years, and even served overseas in the 1st gulf war...why isn't he eligible?

We should be thankful that Disney World even offers such great deals. They don't have to.

I agree, I served two tours in Korea and one in Saudi. I understand that Disney is not required to offer a military discount, but since they are, it would be nice if they offered it to all vets not just retired vets.

The more the military people get, the more they want! I see it 1st hand everyday! If they weren't complaining about the veterans being left out, they would be complaining about someone else being left out. Would you all like some WHINE with that free cheese!!!?!!

my sister did 2 years in the army, got fully retired because of Asama. I did 5 years in the Marines, got deployed to Iraq, got medically separated and am rated 70% disabled after 3 surgeries. Some people say were whining, but do you really think thats fair that she qualifies and I dont? If only I was a short cute Blondie and not a big jarhead.

The person bashing us Vets for requesting a little extra for putting our lives on the line FOR people like YOU to be able to speak your mind. Just remember, you can speak like this BECAUSE OF US! Thank you fellow brothers and sisters for serving

Thanks for asking about 2011 military discounts for Walt Disney World. I have heard rumors of 2011 discounts but have been unable to confirm anything directly from Disney. If and when I do, I will update the information.

I think you all have mis-read the print.
It appears that all active and retired members are eligible for this discount.

Disney is supposed to be the "happiest place on earth". All of us Active, Retired, and Disabled Veterans, should be treated the same. We have all been in some serious situations fighting for the lives of United States Citizens. Why can't we all be given the same respect so that we can enjoy the "happiest place on earth"? Is the Disney Company not making enough money already that they CAN'T afford to give the discount to those of us who have put our lives on the line for this great country?

I can appreciate why some Disney guests, and would-be Disney guests, are frustrated by Disney's policies regarding military discounts. I'm not officially associated with Disney, but I can offer this address where you may contact Walt Disney World with your concerns:

How convenient how you sell tickets (Debra Peterson), but you are not affiliated with Disney? Give me a break.. Maybe YOU TOO should contact Disney and complain. I know that it is not your fault, but don't you think that you should have thought twice about selling tickets; if you knew that these regulations were going to cause problems amongst veterans? Give me a break AGAIN!! This is BS and now I refuse to spend any money Walt Disney Theme Park PERIOD. I will work on boycotting such an inconsiderate organization.

With all due respect to the reader who posted on Dec. 18, 2010, I do NOT sell Disney tickets. Nor am I a Disney travel agent. I am, as my bio indicates, a freelance writer who writes about Disney. Covering Disney discounts is one area of what I do.

I offered the address to Walt Disney World Communications so that individuals who are unhappy with Disney's policy on military discounts can write to the company, as it is the company who has the power to change the policy. I had no desire to offend anyone by providing that information.

My husband did three tours in Iraq and spent three years there. We couldn't plan a Disney trip while he was in because he was always leaving. I finally planned a trip to Disney when his service was up but unfortunately had to cancel it when he was involuntarily recalled to Iraq. After faxing his orders I was able to get deposit back.

Now he's out of the military so I know we can plan a vacation and be able to actually go on it. NOW we can't have the discount.

Figures, huh? :-)
