Walt Disney World (WDW) offers romantic landscapes and activities throughout its resort. Despite its reputation for children and families, WDW offers romantic opportunities in and around the Disney theme parks, fine dining, and special activities suited for romance. This is particularly true for accommodations, where guests need not stay at a deluxe resort to relax with a little luxury. Couples can stay at moderate resorts, for less money than a deluxe or deluxe villa costs, and still enjoy a romantic getaway.
Disney’s moderate resorts all offer something different for couples – from beaches to carriage rides – and each appeals to different guests’ tastes.
Caribbean Beach for Lovers of White-Sand Beaches and Lakefront Views
Despite being one of WDW’s largest resorts, with 2112 rooms, Caribbean Beach maintains an intimate atmosphere thanks to its five “villages,” each of which is identified with a Caribbean island – Aruba, Barbados, Jamaica, Martinique, and Trinidad. The Caribbean motif is maintained through colorful buildings, a swimming pool themed as an old Spanish fort, and white-sand beaches where couples can lounge on hammocks.
Coronado Springs Provides Adult Amenities and Waterfront Relaxation
WDW’s convention hotel, Coronado Springs concentrates on business travel means less family entertainment and more activities focused on adults. Couples can take advantage of this focus when taking a romantic trip. Resort amenities for adults include a health club, with salon services, and the Rix Lounge, which offers cocktails, appetizers, and evening entertainment.
Also enhancing romance are the resort’s Southwestern U.S.-Mexican theme and sprawling grounds, with 1921 rooms that surround the scenic Lago Dorado. Many of the rooms have waterfront views, cabanas are available, and the gazebo-style boat rental is a romantic place to watch a sunset. Staying at one of the farthest rooms can provide couples with a near-private retreat from the hubbub of a Disney vacation.
Port Orleans French Quarter, New Orleans Flair on Intimate Grounds
The French Quarter resort is smaller than its sister resort, Riverside, and its 1,008 rooms provides an immediate intimacy. Its beautiful grounds, with magnolia trees and walking paths along the Sassagoula River, evoke New Orleans at its most picturesque. Although the WDW resort is missing a version of bustling Bourbon Street, what remains is a quiet, relaxing atmosphere ideal for lovers. Sharing a stroll – or a beignet – is a special treat at the French Quarter.
Port Orleans Riverside, a Transportation Lover’s Resort
Larger than the French Quarter, Riverside is themed to the antebellum South and divides its 2048 rooms into two sections called “parishes.” Rooms closer to French Quarter are called Mansion homes, while those farther away are the more rustic-themed Bayou rooms. Its river and wooded walkways are lovely, but Riverside’s transportation is what stands out. Riverside guests, as well as French Quarter ones, have easy access to the resort’s carriage rides or boats to Downtown Disney.
Choosing where to stay is one of the central questions couples taking a romantic trip need to consider. The moderate resorts at Walt Disney World make it easier for guests who want to spend quality time, rather than a lot of extra money, on their trip and yet still enjoy the amenities of a Disney resort.
